Promoting the use of ICT in language teaching: The contribution of support websites 6 November 2009

Abstract:

The aim of this speech is that of providing an overview on the main issues of implementing ICT in language teaching and to analyse how support websites and other relevant tools can be effective to support teacher training processes.
The talk will focuss on several streamlines: The European context: language policies in multicultural and plurilingual settings, the need of rethinking language teaching in the knowledge society and the implications for teachers; the development of ICT skills for teachers: tools, strategies and materials and above all, the outstanding role that support sites and collaborative spaces play for language teachers. Specific attention will be paid to the Catalan Model and the way in which support websites accompany teachers to help them reach a successful implementation of ICT and solve other methodological challenges in which collaboration is essential.
