Language teacher training in Czech Republic

Initial training
Pre-service training - within tercial system of education - done by universities that prepare future teachers (Teacher Training Colleges) or philologists and linguists (Philosophical faculties).
In-service training
1) National Institute for Further Education (NIFE) arranges and offers the courses, seminar meetings, lectures and other activities connected to further education of pedagogical start. www.nidv.cz
The NIFE has an advantage over other institutions of similar interest of being an organisation with national range and having wide spectrum of lecturers and that is why is concerned with problems that need to be solved flexibly and on a national wide level. Nowadays, the priorities of the NIFE are for example education related with curricular reform, education of management of schools, foreign language teaching whose usefulness is connected with increasing demands on language competences of teachers. Current program offer where the pedagogical staff in individual regions may choose from many different educational events.
2) The Research Institute of Education (VÚP) - organizes projects to Assist Teachers - in all projects, there is a teacher training implemented;
• Support for secondary school teachers as a pillar of the Secondary General Education Curriculum G. The project is being implemented from 2009 to 2011 and is intended for secondary (Grammar) school teachers and school educational programme coordinators. The project helps them to gain the competencies that they need for the creation and implementation of quality school education programmes.
• Methodological support for increasing the quality of the teaching profession Methodology II. 2009 - 2011. The project focuses on the systemic support of teachers in the area of methodology and the didactics of instruction, the development of virtual learning communities and effective methods of education. It contributes to an increase in the quality of the work of a teacher, which helps the teacher effectively use various forms and methods of teaching, share experiences with other pedagogues and learn in the sense of lifelong learning. The National Institution of Technical and Vocational Education (NÚOV) also cooperates in this project.
• Support for the activities of Elementary Art Schools (ZUŠ) in the implemention of the new curriculum work - Pilot ZUŠ. The project has been running since 2009 and will finish in 2012. Its aim is to provide support for implementation of the new curriculum into the practice of elementary art schools. On the basis of the experience acquired, the project allows the completion of the Framework Educational Programme for Elementary Art Education including the Manual for Developing School Educational Programmes for Elementary Art Schools. The project focuses on examples of good practice and offers thorough training for lecturers.
3) Regional institutions for in-service development and the Centers for School services
There exist 14 institutions of this kind, each one for the different region of CR. They organize teacher training for regional school institutions.
